Your first mistake was not moving to the East side/Hilo. Your second mistake was not investing in east side properties back in 2005...you could have quadrupled your money by 2023. Your third mistake was shipping your car...better to store the old one and buy another, used beater, on the island. Your worst mistake, not moving here in the '90's, before it was despoiled by big-box stores, real estate development and greed.

I agree that the stuff is usually too much, back in 2012-13 I was living in ocean view and working at KOA airport and I had bought a set of bags for my move from Santa Cruz, CA to the big island. I believe it was a total of four or five bags and a backpack. That’s all I needed, plus I shipped a ford F-150 out so I could get around! Simple life! So as of now I’m trying to get back to that being back in Sacramento, CA. Again a work in progress getting ride of stuff!

Agree, less stuff = less clutter/stress. The stuff ends up owning you. We don’t need a lot crap, we can live with the basics.

I'd like to add a few things. The parking area is known for car break ins. Do not leave anything in your vehicle there. The older flow surrounded, but left mostly unscathed the cemetery and the lighthouse you walk past on the way to the beach. There are also still several homes in this area whose owners have not been able to easily access because the county still has not cleared about two hundred yards of lava to restore the road after six years.

Thanks for this. Clothes were never very important to me and here they are even less so. It's also amazing how much money one can save by not keeping up with style, fashion and cold weather clothing. And right, "it's just a table." I can be fine with college apartment style furnishings from thrift shops and Craigslist.

This is why we don’t eat in town anymore..never went Kona inn in like forever and decided to check out Braddah Cjs restaurant and was really good btw..came back to the car and seen one ticket on the window..parked right in front where Hobie was back in da day..then looked around then seen the signs..maybe should’ve been more aware but cmon us locals don’t look for that kine..pissed me off so bad..it’s not about the money..just irritating they charge for that kine stuff nowadays..definitely sucks for the small businesses..diamond parking u suck!!!

Seattle just adjusted the parking rates....$6 per hour is the top scale. Lots of places are at $1 - $3 per hour.
